When do you switch off?

2 minute read | October 10, 2019

It is a lovely sunny day in Spain. I am sat by the pool. I can hear the gentle lapping of the water. A dragon fly hovers to the side of me. The air is clear. The sky is bright blue. The branches of the tree provide some shade from the hot sun. Patterns dance on the tiles from the leaves as a gentle breeeze passes by. I can hear the sound of a young  child talking and laughing with their parents as they enjoy some  time together on the balcony of their apartment. So many things to notice and enjoy. However, not everyone is enjoying the surroundings around them. Four people join as by the pool. They make their presence felt as they clamour for  a place in the sun. 'Where is my beer shouts one?' After a few moments they settle, but not for long. One of the four hunts frantically in their bag for their mobile phone setting off a chain reaction. All four are now searching for their phones. Placing them by their side, once more they begin to settle.

When do you switch off?

The four settle for a few minutes, then ping, ping, ping off go the phones. Maybe its another instagram message from someone they have never met posting the lastest picture about something. Even when the phone does not ping all four are checking the phones on a regular basis. I wonder what is so important that they cannot even take time to relax to enjoy the moment around the pool.

What are you noticing today?

When do you switch off? Have a lovely day. Steve.
